Over the years, I've probably dealt with hundreds of 8255x Intel NICs, and I consider them and the DEC Tulip 21x4x chips to be the most reliable of the 100Mbs NICs. (We used to buy them in 20 packs.... :-)
I concur, still having a fair number of them in store because of their
high reliability and excellent fxp(4) support (and indeed, working
offloading support for some models).

i82559 here, with i82555 PHY. Run's the department's IPv6 router
(connection to Central Computing/Networking is still tunneled, alas)
