I think this may be interesting to follow... no idea if there are any
thoughts about integration of this so far?

Subject: Mobile IPv6 on MacOS X patches available

Hello,

Let me announce Mobile IPv6 on MacOS X.
I have ported our Mobile IPv6 implementation called SHISA onto MacOS X.
As some of you know, SHISA is the new KAME Mobile IPv6 implementation, and it
works on FreeBSD and NetBSD. Please refer http://www.mobileip.jp/ for the
detail of SHISA.

Now, I made SHISA work on MacOS X, though, it requires changing kernel and
works only on PPC Mac.
If you are interested in the work, visit the following URL:
http://www.momose.org/macintosh/macosx/mip6.html
It works as a MN and CN (they are confirmed), HA should work(not confirmed),
without IPsec protection.

however, There are a lot of restrictions remain yet.
- works on only PPC mac (not Intel)
- only for 10.4.7
- Not work with IPsec

I'll fix these restrictions in near days.

In the process described above URL, it requires compiling kernel and changing
the boot kernel. I don't recommend to use it on your daily use Mac. But it
might be useful for those who have interests IPv6 mobility stuff.

Regards,

P.S.: Of course, I assume no responsibility whatsoever for any damages
resulting from the use of this work.

My opinion is that we should integrate it when it reaches stability.

Hi,

I'm the original sender of the forwarded mail and one of the
developers of SHISA.
Let me explain the current status of SHISA.

SHISA has been developed in the KAME project and it now works on
FreeBSD 5.4 and NetBSD 2.02 because of the current supported platform
version of KAME.

The MacOS X port isn't a official port and it has a lot of
restrictions yet.
But the original SHISA for FreeBSD and NetBSD works very well
including IPsec protection.

SHISA development team is now working to catch up NetBSD current to
aim to merge our code.
Not only to catch up netbsd current, we think we need more brushing
up the code of kernel side.
After the work, maybe within few months, we'll contact to the core
team to merge it.

Regards,

Hi,
(top-posting to keep things in order)
I'm glad to see that KAME is still going! I was just wondering if
KAME had kept up with ipsec-tools, and other current netbsd ipsec/ipv6
development?
Though the cvs repositories are available and making weekly snapshot
is running even now, the KAME project was officially concluded.
Basically, the code is no longer improved. Some subsidiary projects
of KAME such as SHISA use the cvs repository for their development,
however it doesn't mean KAME project is going.

So, the current IPsec/IPv6 code wouldn't be developed any more as
KAME project.
# some internal experimental code might be implemented sometimes.
Maintenance of IKEv1 daemon, racoon is transferred to ipsec-tools few
years ago, and the original developers of racoon has started of
development a new key exchange system called racoon2.
