Any one know how to make this work?  Syslog shows that the USB device gets recognised, but no corresponding interface appears when 'ifconfig -a' is executed.
Is there some command I need to execute?  Or do I need to recompile the default kernel?

Regards .. Graham Jenkins

There is no driver for the Realtek 8712U available yet, it will not work.

Thanks Michael. Is there one coming?  Could we steal an OpenBSD/FreeBSD/Debian driver?
I have seen a Linux driver in 'staging' (i.e. still under development)
that is supposed to work in Debian/Ubuntu.
And .. is there list somewhere of wireless chipsets known to work reliably for i386 NetBSD 6.0?
There is a list of USB drivers, but it is a bit cumbersome to search
for some specific supported hardware.

http://www.netbsd.org/support/hardware/usb.html

The last USB-Wifi adapter that I bought and that is supported by
NetBSD is

http://www.amazon.com/Edimax-EW-7811Un-Wireless-Adapter-Wizard/dp/B005CLMJLU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1356513771&sr=8-1&keywords=edimax

which reports as

urtwn0 at uhub3 port 4
urtwn0: Realtek 802.11n WLAN Adapter, rev 2.00/2.00, addr 3
urtwn0: MAC/BB RTL8188CUS, RF 6052 1T1R, address 80:1f:02:59:11:14
urtwn0: 1 rx pipe, 2 tx pipes
urtwn0: 11b rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps
urtwn0: 11g rates: 1Mbps 2Mbps 5.5Mbps 11Mbps 6Mbps 9Mbps 12Mbps 18Mbps 24Mbps 36Mbps 48Mbps 54Mbps

NetBSD doesn't support 802.11n yet (the 802.11 framework used is too
old). So all supported 802.11n adapters will only work in a compatible
mode.

There is no driver for the Realtek 8712U available yet ..
I got the dongle working on an OpenBSD 5.2 i386 test box, and I noticed
some correspondence from Roy in October saying he's got the OpenBSD
one working without WPA on NetBSD.

So I'm wondering if anyone's got a full-capability version working now,
and whether I might be able to help test it?

The OpenBSD and the NetBSD derivative are USB only and mine connects on
the PCI bus so I was never able to get it to work, sadly.
As my requirement is wireless and I just dont have the time or know-how
I've already ordered a wireless AP to suit my needs.
I can still assist with any testing required if someone gets the PCI
bit working.

Thanks

Roy

Are you saying that there's a NetBSD version that works for USB devices?  That's
just what I need!  How can I get it?

How can I acquire and test the USB-only NetBSD derivative?
